The Grief Blog

"Pray to God that my life’s path will not present experiences that break the heart as profoundly as has yours. Pray to God that, if this lot must be mine then grant me the sight to see – though my eyes be dimmed with tears – an angel such as you coming the other way.

I have made your acquaintance, so can testify that the person speaking through the pages of Get Over It is the same compassionate person who shared almost four hours’ worth of honest experience with me on a flight across eastern Canada. Most readers won’t have that luxury, but within the first few pages they will know that what they have before them is not limited to a clinical how-to manual on the subject of overcoming grief. It is far more precious – a personal conversation drawn from the bitter well of experience, complete with time-outs to weep, to ponder and to reflect, before moving on.

And it is about moving on, though by no means in a cavalier sense. It is about determining to stop observing your very personal grief from a distance, choosing to engage it and discovering life anew in the process. There are other highly-qualified books that discuss grief and attempt to walk the reader through the grieving process. What makes Get Over It different is that you, who have already walked countless dark steps yourself, also understand when simply holding someone’s hand has more healing value than a volume of suggested action steps."
